CBR Plate Test
Measure the strength of ground and subgrade materials with our CBR testing method.
California Bearing Ratio (CBR) testing is a widely recognised method for evaluating the suitability of construction materials. In road and pavement design, it measures the strength of the subgrade against pressure. Plate load testing is a method of CBR testing which applies to a wider coverage area. It facilitates testing for both cohesive and granular materials.
During a CBR test, pressure is applied to a sample of the subgrade to indicate the material’s strength. The plate load aspect then measures the response of the subgrade to the applied pressure, providing valuable insights into its load bearing capacity and overall suitability.
This comprehensive approach is essential for ensuring the durability and longevity of infrastructure projects.

The CBR Test Process
- Level and clear the test area to ensure uniformity.
- Position the CBR test plate on the prepared test area.
- Apply a known load incrementally onto the plate using a hydraulic jack.
- Record the penetration depth of the plate into the soil at each load increment.
- Calculate the CBR value using the formula relating the applied load to the penetration of the plate.
- Compile a comprehensive report with details of our testing procedures and findings.
